Renewal by Andersen Windows are Heavy!

Man are some of these windows heavy. You may ask yourself, what is a cubicle dweller doing unloading windows? I asked myself the same thing day 3 of my new job. Here at Moonworks in Rhode Island, we all pitch in as a team on Renewal by Andersen window delivery day and today we received a delivery of 200. Good thing no one dropped any – these windows are custom measured to fit your home - unlike traditional vinyl windows, which are one size fits all. With vinyl windows, you must shape your home around the window – altering your home’s clean appearance. I am convinced the double paned Low E4 glass is what adds the weight  - unless Argon gas is heavy…..

Uptick in Remodeling from Consumers Staying Put

I came across an interesting article: As More Homeowners Stay Put, Remodeling Starts to Pick Up on CNBC a little while back that relates to home improvement and the current economy. The article analyzes the changing attitudes of the typical homeowner in a down economy.

"My wife and I had thought of this as more of an in-between house," says one Cincinnati homeowner. "Now we have decided to concentrate on making our current home exactly like we want it."

People are coming to the realization that they will need to stay put for longer than earlier planned and they might as well make their current residence as attractive and enjoyable as possible through renovations. The typical homeowner can easily complete many of these home improvements, however it is important to recognize one’s limits. Be sure to hire professionals for larger more specialized jobs like installation of roofing, siding, and windows.

Take a deep breath - Now let your Roof

That's right, your roof needs to breath just like you do. It is healthy for your roof to let air move in and out of your home. If your roof is not properly ventilated, it could cause you to run your heating/cooling system excessively - wasting your money every day. This is especially true in the northeastern climates since we have to deal with both temperature extremes. In addition, without proper roof ventilation, moisture could build up - damaging your home's structure and could lead to health problems for your family.

To ensure a healthy roof, be sure to have your roof installed by a local roofing company that you can trust. Be sure that they have the appropriate licenses and insurance. Anyone can nails shingles to your roof - only professional roofing companies ensure that your roofing system is installed correctly.

Moonworks Day 2009 – Cleaning up Rhode Island

Moonworks held it’s first Moonworks Day on May 15th. Breaking into two teams, Moonworks volunteers divided and conquered the surrounding woodland area of Highland Corporate Park (Woonsocket and Cumberland, Rhode Island). Volunteers picked up 25 industrial size bags of trash and debris surrounding the near by office. The volume of litter in such a small area of 2-3 miles amazed many Moonworks volunteers. Moonworks Day was created to provide a team building activity for it’s employees as well as give back to the community. In addition to selling environmentally friendly home improvement products, Moonworks prides itself in being part of the surrounding community. Who would have know picking up trash could be so much fun! (The pizza party at the end didn’t hurt either.)
